Red & Black

If you have any interest in the character of Batman at all, especially his relationship with his arch foe The Joker, please run, do not walk, RUN, to your local comic book shop and pick up the latest issue, Batman #663, written by Grant Morrison. You will thank me, I promise you.

The End of the Week is Nigh!

Cue dramatic title for the water main break down the street from my apartment. Nothing like waking up on a Friday morning with no water; hence, no shower, etc. Good times!

Tenants in apt. buildings about 40 blocks from me were evacuated on rafts due to waist-high water. It's not exactly a warm day out there either. I can't wait for the temp to drop into the teens tonight, as no water = no heat. Superb start to the weekend :\

Mooninites Gone Wild!

I'm sure by now we've all heard (and blogged) about this little fiasco that took place in Boston on Wednesday. I link to these two particular articles because they both feature the word "hoax" in their headlines. Let's all take a look at the handy ol' dictionary.com:

hoax
–noun
1. something intended to deceive or defraud

The Boston and Massachusetts governments, as well as many in the mainstream media, are tossing this word around pretty freely in this situation. I'm going to go out on a limb here and state my belief that Turner Broadcasting, Adult Swim, and Interference Inc. had absolutely no intent to "deceive or defraud" anyone with this arguably ill-conceived advertising strategy. Far be it from the media or a municipality with a large amount of egg on its face to show some responsibility in its use of potentially slanderous accusations for the sake of hyperbole.

I'm absolutely loving the Boston government's reaction to this: "we kinda made big buncha fools out of ourselves, therefore, we shall strenuously scream our indignation at what is in truth our own over-reactive blunder, and make sure that those responsible for using these silly techniques to advertise their movie and television program are punished to the fullest extent of the law."

Many of the two or three of you who read this blog are aware of my distaste for the city of Boorish... I mean, Boston. I want to thank the city for once again adding fuel to the fire!

It's too bad there's only one season left of The Wire, as putting this sort of police work and government response in its proper light is the show's bread and butter. How I would love to see Rawls and Burrell deal with this :D
